In our studies, patients and their family members judged the quality of Hospital At Home to be better than that provided in the acute hospital. They found relationships with the physicians and other health providers more satisfactory than patients and families who experience regular acute hospital care. They also preferred the process of admission and discharge in Hospital At Home over those processes in an acute hospital. Patients treated in Hospital At Home were as likely as those treated in the hospital to feel that the care delivered was safe. Importantly, they found their home a more comfortable setting in which to receive the acute care. In addition, patients who received Hospital At Home care were just as likely to meet illness-specific quality indicators as those patients treated in the acute hospital.
